It must be one of the greatest honours in my working career to have been listed on the same bill as Michel Odent and Ina May Gaskin at the 3rd MAMA Conference held in sunny Troon over the past two days - let alone sit opposite Ina May at dinner!
Listening to these wise birth workers reminds me of sitting with a
mother who is gently birthing her baby, you feel rocked by the rythm of
the earth and en-awed by the power of their instinct.
It was also deeply inspiring to meet up with so many lovely doulas and midwives and other birthy folk, some old friends and some new, and one fabulous obstetrician!

I am excited to come away with two new books: homebirther obstetrician Amali Lokugamage's The Heart in the Womb, and Rosemary Mander & Val Fleming's (eds) Becoming a Midwife, in which I find a chapter written by research midwife Miranda Page!
I am still keen to trace the student midwife who asked me if there was anything I missed about being a midwife, please get in touch if you read this, I have something I would like to share with you!
Thanks again to Cassy and Nikki for organising such a great event. For more on MAMA 2012 see: http://adelastockton.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/journey-from-midwife-to-doula-mama-2012_28.html
